Absolutely. In fact, young people with hearing loss thrive in sports. For example, some people use specialized equipment like bone-conduction headsets for clear audio in team sports others wear protective headgear for cochlear implants. It is very possible to thrive in any sport of your choosing: Swimming, Running, Soccer, Wrestling and more.
Waterproof hearing aids and swim molds can be game-changers for those with hearing loss who love to swim. We recommend using waterproof hearing aid/cochlear implant covers in order to hear properly during aquatically related activities. You can also use retention clips that can adhere to your swim garments for extra support.
Navigating daily life can be easier with the right tools. Assistive technology like vibrating alarm clocks, doorbell signalers, and apps that convert speech to text in real time are all extremely helpful. We also recommend setting up visual alert systems at home and setting up strategies for clear communication with friends and family.
Traveling with hearing loss can be made smoother with a few preparations. For example, for extra support, we recommend checking in with airlines or hotels ahead of time to request accommodations like visual boarding alerts or accessible hotel rooms. Translation apps and assistive listening devices can certainly make traveling easier. And of course, having a travel buddy whenever possible can certainly make things easy and seamless.
